Our Founders
St. Joseph’s School, Rihand Nagar was established in July 1984 and is managed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allahabad with the Agreement of NTPC, a Company incorporated in the Company Act 1956 and having its registered office in New Delhi and its Rihand super thermal power project at Rihand Nagar, Sonebhadra Dt.
In 1984 the school began with an agreement between the bishop of Allahabad, the late Bishop Rt. Rev. Baptist Mudartha and Shri Manohar Sahay the then G.M. NTPC, Rihand to educate the children of NTPC employees. The principal who steered the institution of the school was the late Fr. Noel D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Avenlin Louis along with the 4 CJ sisters, Juliana, Stella, Anette, Brigit, Ms. J. Jude and Mrs. M. Roy. The school was blessed with a total no. of 87 children and by the end of the year it had shown remarkable growth having 142 students. The 1st Annual concert was held in 1986 by the pioneering teachers with the cooperation of the parents. The St. Joseph’s School was shifted from the TTS area to the NH-1 area in the year 1990 and in the year 1991 the 1st batch of cl. 10 with 4 students, 3 girls and a boy passed out with 1st Division. In the Year 1993 the SR. Sec. was started and affiliated to the Central Board of Sec. Education New Delhi in 1994.
The school provides serenity and tranquillity for unrestrained development and growth. It is situated against a backdrop of rolling hills on the shores of Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar Lake. The National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd. runs this school at Rihand Nagar, Sonebhadra District.
The school imparts knowledge and moral values to its people in a unique combination of intellectual, moral, emotional, aesthetic, physical and social education. Its motto is to spread the light of truth and justice under the care of St. Joseph, the school's patron. It is committed to integral quality education through innovative, progressive methods that foster attachment to our cultural heritage and nurture the growth of pupils into responsible citizens, building a just and humane society.
St. Joseph School celebrated its Silver Jubilee in November 2009. For the past 28 years, it has produced many worthy students who have served the nation in and abroad in various capacities in the fields of engineering, health science, social work, etc., with commendable excellence. Today, the school's students bring laurels not only to this institution but also to society.
